Editorial Policy

At The Economic Botanist, we are committed to providing high-quality, trustworthy content that is scientifically accurate and accessible to our readers. Below, you will find an overview of our editorial practices, including the types of sources we feature, the kinds of content we accept, our editorial style, and how we handle clarifications, corrections, and retractions.

1. Sources We Trust

We prioritize working with reputable, non-profit sources that focus on research, education, and scholarly work. We generally prefer to feature institutions that are well-known in academic and scientific communities. This often means collaborating with public relations or media officers from universities, research institutes, or other educational organizations. We also welcome direct submissions from individual researchers, as long as their work aligns with our standards.

While we typically do not accept press releases from for-profit companies, we may consider them if the content is focused on scientific research or provides significant public benefit.

2. Types of Content We Feature

We welcome submissions of news releases, but we cannot guarantee that every submission will be published. Our editorial team carefully selects content that we believe will be of interest to our readers.

We prioritize the following types of content:

  • New Research Findings: Especially those tied to peer-reviewed journal articles or studies that advance knowledge in the field of botany, economics, or related disciplines.

  • Innovative Research Projects: Descriptions of groundbreaking or significant projects that contribute to our understanding of plants, ecosystems, or economic systems.

However, we generally do not feature the following types of content:

  • Announcements about grant awards (unless they focus on the science behind the research).

  • Appointments, honors, meeting notices, or administrative announcements that are not tied to significant research developments.

3. Our Editorial Style

At The Economic Botanist, we respect the integrity of the original content we receive. In most cases, we post submissions as they are written, with minimal changes. However, we do reserve the right to make minor edits for clarity and consistency. Here’s how we handle editing:

  • Spelling and Grammar: We correct spelling and grammatical errors to improve readability, but we do not alter country-specific spelling styles (e.g., “colour” vs. “color”).

  • Headlines and Summaries: We may rewrite headlines and summaries to make them clearer and more concise while preserving the original intent of the submission.

  • Clarifications: We may make small adjustments to ensure the content is clear and accessible to all readers.

Our goal is to ensure that the content we share is both accurate and easy to understand without altering the original message.

4. Clarifications, Corrections, and Retractions

Sometimes, after a post is published, we may need to make changes—either to correct errors or provide additional information. Here's how we handle this process:

  • Minor Corrections: If a post contains simple mistakes, such as spelling or grammatical errors, we will make the necessary changes ourselves.

  • Substantial Corrections: For more significant changes, such as factual errors or omissions, we will work with the original source of the information to make sure the correction is accurate. We may not make these changes solely based on requests from third parties who disagree with the content—especially if the disagreement is not based on factual inaccuracies.

  • Retractions: In rare cases, we may retract a post entirely if serious concerns arise, such as the retraction of a study by a journal or questions regarding the integrity of the research.

If you notice an error or omission in one of our posts, or if you believe a correction is needed, we encourage you to contact us directly. If a change is agreed upon by the original source, we will update the content accordingly.
